Greensboro, N.C. – “Topical” street art is the newest passion of Marty Kotis, who has brought diverse styles of street art — from graffiti to stencil and figurative to abstract to neo-cubism — to Greensboro. But how does a commercial developer and restaurateur become a patron of street art?

As far back as he can remember, Greensboro street artist Brian Lewis — who goes by his artist name JEKS — has loved creating. He can recall how much he enjoyed drawing, even as a toddler, and says his mother still has some of those early works.

He’s not an artist.

He never studied art. Never collected it. Never particularly noticed it.

Heck, he wasn’t even a comic book kid.

The mural on Battleground Avenue, beside Burger Warfare, on the wall of Midtown Financial Advisors. It  features Tecumseh Jones, a 19-year-old Lumbee and Tuscarora Indian. The mural was commissioned by Marty Kotis, who is making a concerted effort to boost the art scene in Greensboro.

The Guilford Green Community Center is one of the latest buildings in Greensboro to get a new mural. The mural extends around the building and onto the parking lot. The community center is located at the corner of Grecade and West Bessemer, on the eastern edge of Midtown.

GREENSBORO — While walking through the streets of Wilmington, you may be surprised to see the faces of local Lumbees but that’s what residents got as they unveiled the murals of Miss Lumbee Madison Davenport and Tecumseh Jones.

Tracks Bazaar is a new eight-acre entertainment center in downtown Greensboro. Tracks Bazaar is currently home to a food truck park and concert bandstand and will eventually feature a beer garden, shops, restaurants, and an outdoor market.
